New Hot Water Music EP!

I recently picked up the excellent new EP from Hot Water Music. The band has been inactive for a few years now, but hopefully this EP is a preview of what is to come. They’re touring now (looking forward to seeing them at Riot Fest Philly in a few weeks!) and will hopefully be releasing some a new album in the near future. Hot Water Music has always been a bands band. While HWM may have never achieved the commerical success as some of their contemporaries, they have a legion of die hard fans; and have always been a band that other bands were excited to see on stage. Yes, its only two songs, but it left me salivating for more of their new material.

The Fire, The Steel, The Tread – This song sounds like it could easily fit on one of Chuck Ragan’s solo albums. It mixes Ragans Americana songwriting with the the classic Hot Water Music fervor and intensity.

Adds Up to Nothing – This is a more traditional HWM song, distorted guitars, excellent harmonies and sing along chorus.

Both these songs showcase the progression the band has gone through over the years. As with other great bands, they were able to take a break and pursue other interests, and still not lose focus of what makes Hot Water Music a great band. It sounds like they’ve taken the lessons learned from time apart and side projects and brought them back to make Hot Water music sound better than ever.
